Walking Through Woods
You know that smell when you crush bay leaves between your fingers and the oils stick to your skin for hours? This is that—but wilder, woodsier, from the actual North American bayberry shrub that grows along the coast. Not the bay leaf in your spice cabinet. Different plant entirely.
We harvest bayberry from our farm in Kent Island, Maryland, then distill it in our Owings Mills facility. Steam rises through fresh bayberry leaves and branches, carrying the scent molecules up and out until they condense back into water. What's left is this amber-tinted mist that smells like October woods after rain—earthy, a little spicy, slightly waxy from the natural coating on bayberry leaves.
People spray it on their face after washing. Some use it to refresh their hair between washes. Others just mist it in their bedroom because it smells like walking through forest and it's better than lighting a candle at 11pm.
The scent doesn't hang around all day. It's there, then it fades. That's how hydrosols work—gentle, not perfume-strength. If you want bayberry candle smell, this isn't it. This is what the actual plant smells like when you heat it with steam.
When and Where to Spray It
- Morning: Spray your face after washing, before moisturizer. Or skip moisturizer and follow with a facial oil—the water helps it sink in.
- Post-Shower: Mist your arms, chest, back of your neck while your skin's still slightly damp. The scent sits close to your skin, not loud.
- Hair: Spray into your hairbrush or directly onto dry hair when it needs refreshing but doesn't need washing. Smells better than dry shampoo.
- Room: A few pumps in your bedroom, bathroom, car. Anywhere you want to smell woods without burning something.
- Storage: Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat. Hydrosols are alive—they'll last longer if you treat them gently.
Use within six months of opening. Store away from heat and direct sunlight.
CAUTIONS: External use only. Discontinue if irritation occurs. Store away from light and heat.
What’s Inside?
- Bayberry Leaf Flower Water (2oz): Steam-distilled from sustainably harvested North American bayberry (Myrica cerifera)
- Aspen Bark Extract: Natural preservative from tree bark
That's it. Two ingredients.
Why This Flower Water?
- Sustainably Harvested, Maryland: We harvest bayberry from our Kent Island farm and distill it in our Owings Mills facility. Small batches, checked by hand.
- Hydrosol Not Perfume: This is the water left over from steam distillation—gentle plant essence, not concentrated fragrance oil. The scent is subtle and fades naturally.
- Works Multiple Ways: Face mist after cleansing. Body spray after showering. Hair refresher when you don't feel like washing. Room spray when you want your space to smell like forest.
- Two Ingredients Only: Bayberry distillate and aspen bark extract (the preservative). No fragrance added, no fillers.
- Different From Candles: Bayberry candles smell like the waxy coating on bayberry fruit. This smells like the leaves and branches—earthier, greener, less sweet.
