Too Good to Save for December
Walk through a pine forest in December and break a branch off a fir tree. That sharp green smell mixed with cold air—that's the base of this candle. Then someone's baking something with cinnamon and orange peel nearby.
Winter Forest smells like actual evergreens, not Christmas tree air freshener. There's pine and fir balsam with real resin bite. Cinnamon, clove, nutmeg warming it up. Orange cutting through the green. It's woods plus kitchen, outside plus inside.
People who hate "pine scent" because it reminds them of cleaning products burn this one. It smells like trees, not Lysol.
Well-loved by the writers at the Washingtonian Magazine.

- 100% American-Grown Soy Wax: Soy burns cleaner than paraffin — no streaks on your walls, no petrochemicals in the air. Every batch is hand-poured in our Owings Mills, Maryland facility and checked before it ships.
- 30-Hour Burn, 6oz Jelly Jar: Cotton wick, no phthalates, no dyes, no synthetic colors. The jar is reusable — matches, birthday candles, drawer stuff.

Order one before the cold sets in — or pick up a second jar to have on hand.
How to Use: Trim the wick to ¼ inch before the first light. Let the wax melt edge to edge on that first burn — about an hour — to prevent tunneling. Keep individual burns to 1.5 hours maximum and let the candle cool completely before moving it. When roughly ½ inch of wax remains, retire the candle, wash the jar with hot soapy water, and put it to use.

Winter Forest Soy Candle FAQs
What does the Winter Forest candle smell like?
Winter Forest smells like breaking off a fir branch on a cold December walk — pine and fir balsam with real resin bite, plus warm baking spice running underneath. The base is forest pine and fir, layered with cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg for warmth, and orange peel cutting through the green to keep things bright. Apartment Therapy's testers picked up on the smokiness and called the fragrance "complex." Customers consistently report that the scent throw is unusually strong for a 6oz candle — one wrote that a single jar smells up an entire apartment. It's woods plus kitchen, outside plus inside, and a real winter forest rather than a Christmas-tree air freshener.
Does this smell like a real pine forest, or like fake Christmas tree or pine cleaner?
Real pine forest. Most pine candles fail because they lean on synthetic pine-cleaner notes — the Lysol or fake-tree-air-freshener effect that gives the entire pine category a bad reputation. Winter Forest is built around actual evergreen scent: fir balsam, real resin, cold-air green. The cinnamon, orange, and spice layered in mimic what's actually nearby in a winter household — citrus peels, baking, woodsmoke. Customers who normally avoid pine candles because they read as "cleaning product" make exceptions for this one. If "pine candle" usually means "no thanks" for you, this is the version worth trying.
Is this candle just for the holidays, or can I burn it year-round?
Burn it whenever you want. Winter Forest peaks during November, December, and January — the warm spice and pine combination is built for the holidays. But plenty of customers order it through summer. One reviewer told us they love this candle even in July. Another orders it year-round because, as we put it on the page, a good pine scent doesn't need a calendar. It's especially nice on rainy fall days, after a cold walk, or whenever you want the room to smell like somewhere quieter than where you actually are.
Is this a good holiday gift?
It's one of our most reliable holiday and winter gifts. The pine-and-spice combination reads as instantly seasonal without feeling cliché, and the press mentions in Apartment Therapy and Washingtonian Magazine give it credibility for a recipient you don't know well. The 6oz jelly jar fits into a stocking, gift basket, or hostess bundle without taking up much room. It's a strong pick for hostess thank-yous at holiday parties, white elephant exchanges where you actually want to give something good, teacher and coworker gifts, and "I needed something for my brother-in-law" moments. Pair it with our honey or one of our teas for a complete winter gift in under a minute.
Are these candles clean-burning and non-toxic?
Yes. Our jelly jar candles are made with 100% American-grown soy wax, a phthalate-free fragrance oil, and a 100% cotton wick. Soy burns cleaner than paraffin — no soot ring on your ceiling, no petrochemicals released into the air. There are no dyes, no synthetic colors, and no phthalates. Every batch is hand-poured in our Owings Mills, Maryland facility and inspected before it ships. Safe to burn in kitchens, bedrooms, home offices, or any room you actually spend time in.
How long do the candles burn?
Our 6oz jelly jar candles have about a 30-hour burn time. To get the full 30 hours, keep individual burns to 1.5 hours maximum and trim the cotton wick to ¼ inch before every light. On the first burn, let the wax melt edge to edge — about an hour — to prevent tunneling down the middle. When roughly ½ inch of wax remains in the jar, retire the candle. Always let it cool fully before moving it, and burn on a heat-safe surface, away from drafts, pets, and anything flammable.
How do I get the longest, cleanest burn out of my candle?
Three things make the biggest difference. First, trim the cotton wick to ¼ inch before every light — long wicks cause smoke and uneven burning. Second, on your first burn, let the wax pool reach the edges of the jar (about an hour) so the candle doesn't tunnel down the middle. Third, keep individual burns to 1.5 hours maximum and let the candle cool completely before moving it. Burn on a heat-safe surface, away from drafts, pets, and anything flammable. Retire the candle when about ½ inch of wax remains.
What can I do with the jelly jar once the candle is finished?
Reuse it. Once the wax is gone, wash the 6oz jelly jar with hot soapy water and put it back to work. It's the right size for sugar, tea bags, paper clips, hair ties, bobby pins, spare buttons, loose change, jewelry, or as a small votive holder for tea lights. Some customers use them as bud vases or tiny salt cellars on the kitchen counter. We're not big on single-use anything, and the jars are too solid to throw out.
