Dirt Under the Nails

Six products that understand what gardening does to your skin. A body scrub with actual exfoliating power (because soap alone doesn't cut it after a day in the dirt). Body butter that sinks in deep, not the kind that sits on top. Oil that absorbs before you put your clothes back on. Bar soap with sea salt and black clay that gets into the creases of your hands. Lip scrub and balm for lips that crack from forgetting to drink water while weeding.

What Makes Our Gardener’s Gift Set Special?

  • Rose Garden Body Scrub (2oz): Organic cane sugar and honey crystals with sunflower seed oil, jojoba oil, rosehip seed oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter. Includes dried rose flowers and rosehip fruit powder. Essential oil blend.
  • Rose Garden Body Butter (1.7oz): Sweet almond oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter, and Bee Inspired honey. Emulsified formula absorbs without leaving hands slippery. Same essential oil blend as the scrub.
  • Sea+Tea Body Oil (1oz): Sunflower seed oil, jojoba seed oil, avocado oil, squalane, rooibos tea extract, and sea buckthorn fruit oil. Lightweight dry oil formula.
  • Sea Salt + Black Clay Bar Soap (4.75oz): Olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, avocado oil, pumice, bentonite clay, sea salt, peppermint essential oil, and menthol. Gets into hand creases and cuticles.
  • Honey Lip Scrub (0.18oz): Organic cane sugar and honey crystals with apricot kernel oil, shea butter, beeswax, and castor oil.
  • Plastic-Free Honey Lip Balm (0.15oz): Organic sunflower oil, beeswax, hemp seed oil, olive oil, aloe vera oil, and raw honey. 100% plastic-free, compostable plant cellulose tube.
  • Zippered cosmetic bag: Original artwork by Kara. Holds all six products. Gets reused for seed packets, hand tools, travel supplies — whatever needs organizing after the products move to the shower shelf.
  • Made in Maryland: Small batches at our Owings Mills facility, checked before they ship.

Built for the person who actually gardens, not the one who thinks about it.

How to Use: Start in the shower with the bar soap — the sea salt, pumice, and black clay work into calluses and cuticles. While skin is still damp, use the body scrub on elbows, knees, heels, and anywhere rough, then rinse. Pat dry and apply the body oil first — it absorbs in about a minute — then layer body butter over the driest spots. Use the lip scrub once or twice a week and the lip balm daily; it fits in an apron pocket. The cosmetic bag holds everything on your bathroom counter until the products are gone, then moves wherever you need it.

Gardener’s Gift Set FAQs

What does this lip scrub actually do?

It removes dead skin, dried-on lipstick, and that flaky layer that makes lip color look patchy. The cane sugar handles the heavier exfoliating, and the smaller honey crystals soften as you massage to polish without tearing. Once you rinse off the scrub, lip balm and gloss absorb properly instead of sitting on top of a rough surface. People notice the difference after one use, especially in winter when lips chap and lipstick stops sitting right.

What does Sea+Tea Body Oil smell like?

Herbal and green, like a coastal meadow rather than a perfume counter. The essential oil blend is bergamot, yarrow, rosemary, and lavender, bright at the top and woodsy underneath. The scent is most present right after you apply, then settles into something subtle on skin within fifteen minutes. People who don't usually wear scented body products tend to be surprised by this one. It smells like the question: what if I could reset before the day starts?

Can I use the body oil year-round, or is it just for winter dryness?

Year-round. The combination of organic jojoba, sunflower oil, and avocado oil means each ingredient absorbs at a different rate, so the formula is light enough for July humidity and substantial enough for February when indoor heat dries everything out. People use it on bare legs in summer and over wrists and elbows in winter. The five-minute window after a hot shower is when it works best, in any season.

What does Rose Garden smell like?

Real roses, not rose perfume. The scent comes from rose, lavender, and geranium essential oils, so it reads as fresh-cut flowers rather than the heavy floral you get from synthetic rose fragrance. Rose carries the main note. Lavender keeps it from going too sweet. Geranium adds a green, slightly herbal depth that real flower bouquets always have. The blend is layered the way an actual garden is layered, which is why it doesn't smell like one note pretending to be a flower.

Is Rose Garden better as a daytime or bedtime body butter?

Either, and plenty of people use it for both. The rose and geranium read brighter in the morning, especially with coffee. The lavender comes through more at night and pairs with the slower wind-down of getting ready for bed. The slightly heavier texture also makes it feel more like an evening ritual, since the longer absorption time matters less when you're not rushing to get dressed. If you're choosing one slot, bedtime suits this formula well. If you love rose, you'll wear it whenever.

What's in this honey lip balm?

Sunflower oil, organic beeswax, hemp seed oil, extra virgin olive oil, aloe vera oil, and raw honey. Every main ingredient is USDA certified organic. The light honey flavor and scent come from the honey itself, not added fragrance. No mineral oil, no parabens, no synthetic flavor, no dyes. The beeswax gives the balm its structure without that draggy, waxy feel some balms leave behind, and the oils sink in instead of sitting on the surface.

Are your bar soaps gentle enough for daily use?

Yes, all three are formulated for regular use on the body. Oatmeal+Lavender is the gentlest, made without dyes or synthetic fragrance and safe for sensitive skin. Coffee+Cream and Sea Salt+Black Clay are more active with exfoliating ingredients, so most people reach for them a few times a week on rough patches rather than every day everywhere. None will strip your skin the way commercial bars can, since cold-process soap keeps its natural glycerin instead of selling it off separately.

How often should I use a body scrub?

Two or three times a week is the sweet spot for most people. Skin needs time to rebuild between exfoliations, so daily use can leave you feeling raw rather than smooth. If you're working on a specific rough patch, you can spot-treat it more often, just keep the rest of your routine on the gentler schedule. People with sensitive skin often do better at once a week. The goal is skin that feels softer afterward, not tight or stripped.

What's the difference between a sugar scrub and a salt scrub?

Sugar dissolves as you work it into damp skin, so the texture eases off the harder you press. That makes it gentler than salt for most body areas and especially for anyone with sensitive skin. Salt scrubs stay coarse the whole time and can sting if you've nicked yourself shaving. Our scrubs are sugar-based for that reason. Cane sugar exfoliates, then rinses cleanly without the stripped feeling some salt formulas leave behind.

How is body butter different from regular lotion?

Texture and staying power. Lotion is mostly water with a small amount of oil suspended in it, which is why it absorbs in a second and disappears just as fast. Body butter is mostly oils and butters with less water, so it takes a little longer to sink in but keeps skin feeling softer for hours. Ours is whipped to a lighter consistency than most body butters, which is why it absorbs in thirty seconds instead of leaving a heavy film. Use both if you want: butter after the shower, lotion for midday top-offs.

Who designed the cosmetics bag, and what makes it different from a regular canvas pouch?

The bag features original artwork by Kara Brook Brown, our founder, beekeeper, and the artist behind most of what you'll see across the brand. It's not stock canvas with a logo printed on it. The artwork is hers and the construction holds up to daily use. People notice it the way they'd notice any piece of design they like, and they tend to keep carrying it long after the lip balm runs out. Sturdy enough for gym bags and suitcases, distinctive enough that you won't lose it in a tote.
