Not all soy wax candles are made the same way. The material matters, the fragrance sourcing matters, and — at a small-batch level — the person pouring them matters. At Bee Inspired, every candle starts with 100% American-grown soy wax and ends with a hand-labeled jar leaving our Owings Mills, Maryland facility. Here is what goes into them and why those details are worth knowing before you buy.

Why Soy Wax — and Why American-Grown
Soy wax is derived from soybean oil, making it a renewable, plant-based alternative to paraffin, which is a petroleum byproduct. That difference shows up practically: soy wax burns at a lower temperature than paraffin, which means longer burn times and less soot accumulation on jar rims and walls. It also holds fragrance well, releasing scent gradually as the wax pool widens rather than in one initial burst that fades.
The "American-grown" part is not a marketing phrase for us — it is a sourcing decision. Our soy wax is white before fragrance is added. That is how you know it is pure soy, not a blend cut with paraffin or other waxes that are sometimes sold under the soy label. Supporting U.S. soybean farmers is part of using the material honestly.

Small-Batch Pouring in Owings Mills
Every Bee Inspired candle is hand-poured in small batches — usually under 50 at a time — at our facility in Owings Mills, Maryland. That pace is deliberate. Small batches mean every pour gets attention: wax temperature, fragrance concentration, wick placement, cure time. The team knows which scents need an extra day before they are ready and which ones set up cleanly by Tuesday. Quality control is easier when you are not running a production line.
The candles are not rushed into boxes. Soy wax needs time to cure fully after pouring — the fragrance integrates, the surface sets, and the burn performance stabilizes. We do not cut that time short.
What Goes Into Every Candle
The ingredient list is short by design. Each candle contains 100% American-grown soy wax, phthalate-free fragrance oil, and a 100% cotton wick. No synthetic dyes. No petrochemical fillers. The fragrance oils are blended specifically for soy wax — formulations that work in paraffin do not always perform the same way in soy, and we do not use them interchangeably. Some scents smell stronger cold than they do burning; that is normal and varies by fragrance. Ruby Red Grapefruit is one where the cold throw is particularly strong.
The vessels are reusable glass — dark glass for the Luxe line, clear glass for the Jelly Jars. Once the wax is gone, freeze the jar, pop out any remaining wax with a butter knife, and wash with soap and water. People use them for cotton swabs, small hardware, loose change. One customer keeps guitar picks in hers.

Two Lines, One Standard
Bee Inspired candles come in two formats. The Jelly Jar line holds 6 ounces and burns for approximately 30 hours. Clear glass, classic shape, straightforward. The Luxe line holds 10 ounces in dark glass and burns for up to 75 hours. The Luxe jar is substantial enough to leave out as part of a room — it earns its place on a shelf or a side table without needing to be hidden when guests arrive.
Both lines use the same wax, the same fragrance concentration, and the same cotton wicks. The difference is size and vessel. Choose based on how much candle you actually need and what fits your space.

The Scents
Every scent in the Bee Inspired line stays in rotation year-round. There are no seasonal exclusives forcing a purchase window — if you want Winter Forest in July or Place in the Sun in December, both are available. The collection spans floral, gourmand, fresh, and woodsy directions, with several scents pulling from the same ingredient world as our honey and skincare lines.
Among the most requested: Wild Honeysuckle, a botanical blend of honeysuckle blossom, pear, black currant, and neroli — floral without being sweet-heavy. Nectar + Honey, which opens warm and amber and is one of the most consistently requested scents for corporate gifting. Double Espresso, a rich coffee fragrance that reads as morning-specific but works all day. And Winter Forest, a clean, woodsy scent that is among the most popular in the Luxe format year-round.
Buying three or more candles — any mix of sizes and scents — automatically takes 15% off at checkout.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Candle
Candle care is not complicated, but two steps make a meaningful difference. First, on the initial burn, let the wax pool reach all the way to the edges of the jar before extinguishing — for Jelly Jars, that is about one hour; for the Luxe, closer to 90 minutes. This prevents tunneling, where the wick burns straight down and leaves a ring of unmelted wax along the sides. Second, trim the wick to a quarter inch before every burn. A long wick produces more soot and a less controlled flame. Do not burn either size for more than three hours at a time, and never leave a burning candle unattended. Our full candle care page covers first burns, storage, and what to do when the wax runs low.
Made Here, Giving Back From Here
Bee Inspired is a Maryland company, and the candles are made in Maryland. A portion of profits from every purchase goes toward community organizations and reforestation efforts. We use American-grown soy because it supports U.S. agriculture; we give back from our proceeds because that is what we think a purposeful business does. Learn more about our giving.

Soy Candles FAQs
Are soy wax candles better than paraffin?
Soy wax and paraffin perform differently as materials. Soy wax is plant-derived and renewable; paraffin is a petroleum byproduct. Soy burns at a lower temperature, which typically results in a longer burn time and less soot accumulation compared to paraffin. Soy wax also holds fragrance oil well, releasing scent gradually over the course of the burn. Whether that makes it "better" depends on what you value in a candle, but the material differences are real.
What are soy wax candles made of?
Soy wax is derived from hydrogenated soybean oil. At Bee Inspired, our candles contain 100% American-grown soy wax, phthalate-free fragrance oil, and 100% cotton wicks. No synthetic dyes, no paraffin blends, no phthalates or parabens in the fragrance.
Do soy candles produce soot?
Soy wax burns at a lower temperature than paraffin and produces less soot as a result. Keeping the wick trimmed to a quarter inch before each burn and not exceeding three hours of burn time per session further reduces soot. Some soot is normal with any candle — proper wick maintenance is the most effective way to minimize it.
How long do soy candles last?
Burn time depends on candle size. Our Jelly Jar candles (6 oz) burn for approximately 30 hours. Our Luxe candles (10 oz) burn for up to 75 hours. Actual burn time varies based on wick trimming, draft exposure, and burn session length.
What does "phthalate-free fragrance" mean?
Phthalates are a class of chemical compounds sometimes used in synthetic fragrance formulations. Our fragrance oils contain no phthalates or parabens. The fragrances are blended specifically for use in soy wax, which has different absorption and throw characteristics than paraffin.
Can I reuse the candle jar?
Yes. Once the candle has burned down, freeze the jar for a few hours, then use a butter knife to pop out any remaining wax. Wash with soap and warm water. Both the Jelly Jar and Luxe vessels are standard glass and hold up to repeated use.
