Sunday Mask

The kind of mask you mix in a coffee mug on Sunday night. Feels like a spa treatment. Not a whole production. Just powder and water and twenty minutes when your skin feels like it needs something.

This one's for people whose faces get angry at most things. The kind of sensitive skin that turns red from fragrance, reacts to preservatives, can't handle the standard stuff. Oatmeal and honey and lavender powder—nothing your grandmother wouldn't recognize. No dye. No scent added. Just the faint smell of oats when you open the jar.

What Makes Our Calming Dry Mask Special?

  • Colloidal oats and lavender powder: Avena sativa oat kernel meal and Lavandula angustifolia lavender flower powder — both well-tolerated by reactive skin. No synthetic fragrance, no added scent of any kind. The faint smell comes from the oats and lavender themselves.
  • Kaolin and bentonite clay: Two clays that clean without leaving skin tight or dry after rinsing. The mask dries but stays flexible — doesn't crack. Rinses clean with warm water.
  • No preservatives, no fragrance, no dye: Powder format means no preservatives are needed — you mix it fresh each time. Nothing in the formula that commonly triggers reactions in sensitive skin.
  • Mix it your way: Water works. Green tea, almond milk, carrot juice, Greek yogurt — people use all of them. Two parts mask powder to one part liquid, stirred to thick yogurt consistency. Mix fresh each time.
  • Small batch, Owings Mills: Made in our Maryland facility. Every batch is mixed, checked for texture, and smelled before it gets jarred.

Pairs with the Clarity Dry Mask — alternate between the two depending on what your skin needs week to week.

How to Use

Mix two parts mask powder with one part liquid in a mug or small bowl until it reaches a thick, even consistency. Apply to clean skin on face and neck or wherever it's needed. Leave on for ten to twenty minutes, then rinse with warm water. Follow with whatever moisturizer you normally use. Use once or twice a week as needed. Use within six months of opening and store away from heat and direct sunlight. External use only. Discontinue if irritation occurs.

Calming Dry Mask FAQs

Is the Calming Mask really fragrance-free?

Yes. There's no synthetic fragrance, no essential oils added for scent, and no masking agents. When you open the jar, you'll catch a faint, soft smell. That's the actual oats and lavender powder, not added perfume. If you've reacted to "unscented" products before that turned out to use masking fragrance, this isn't that. Just oat kernel meal, lavender flower powder, two clays, and dried honey. Nothing pretending to be neutral.

Will this mask work for sensitive or reactive skin?

That's exactly who we made it for. If your face turns red from fragrance, reacts to common preservatives, or struggles with most "natural" products on the market, this formula was built around those concerns. Colloidal oats and lavender powder are both well tolerated by reactive skin. Kaolin and bentonite clean without stripping. No dye, no fragrance, no preservatives, no mystery. That said, every skin is different. Patch test on your inner arm first if you're new to clay masks.

Can I use the Calming Mask on body areas besides my face?

You can. The formula is gentle enough for the neck, chest, shoulders, or anywhere skin feels reactive or congested. Some people use it as a spot treatment on irritated patches or after a long day in chlorinated pool water. Mix the same ratio (two parts powder, one part liquid), apply to clean skin, leave on for ten to twenty minutes, and rinse with warm water. Keep it external, and skip any broken or actively inflamed skin.

How does the Calming Mask compare to the Clarity and Sea+Tea Masks?

Calming is the gentle one, built for sensitive and reactive skin with oats, lavender, and two mild clays. Clarity uses rose and kaolin clays with buttermilk powder, made for oily and combination skin that needs oil control. Sea+Tea brings kelp, green tea, and three clays for a deeper clean. Many customers own two and alternate based on what their skin needs that week. Calming after a stressful flight, Clarity for an oily phase, Sea+Tea for a reset.

What is a dry mask, and how is it different from a regular face mask?

A dry mask is a powder you mix with liquid right before you use it. No preservatives, because there's no water sitting in the jar for bacteria to grow in. You scoop out what you need, stir it with water (or whatever you like), and use it fresh. Wet masks have to include preservatives and stabilizers to stay shelf-stable. With a dry mask, the formula activates only when you're ready, which keeps the ingredients more potent and the formula simpler.

What can I mix the mask powder with?

Water works perfectly. Plenty of people get more creative: green tea, almond milk, carrot juice, plain Greek yogurt, even raw honey. The ratio stays the same. Two parts mask powder to one part liquid, stirred until it's thick like yogurt or frosting. Mix fresh each time, since once it's wet, it's wet. Different liquids add their own properties (yogurt is more soothing, green tea is antioxidant-rich), so feel free to experiment with what your skin responds to.

How often should I use a dry clay mask?

Once or twice a week is the sweet spot for most skin. Clay masks pull oil and impurities, and overdoing it can leave skin feeling tight or unbalanced. If your skin is on the sensitive side, start with once a week and see how it feels. If you're using it for a specific concern (a breakout, a dull patch, a Sunday reset before a big week), spot-treat the area instead of doing the whole face every time.

How long does the mask last after I open it?

Six months from the date you open the jar. Store it somewhere cool and dry, away from heat and direct sunlight, with the lid closed tight. Because it's a dry powder formula, the jar stays stable longer than a wet mask would, and you don't have to worry about preservative breakdown. One ounce, used once a week at the recommended ratio, generally lasts several months. If the powder ever clumps or smells off, it's time to replace it.
