Summer Fruit & Laurel: Fresh, Herbaceous, and Oh-So-Smooth

This scrub is a summer essential. Use it after a swim to rescue your skin from chlorine, after gardening to revive your hands, or before vacation to get those legs smooth and selfie-ready. It’s the perfect mix of hardworking and indulgent, just like you.

What Makes Our Place in the Sun Body Scrub Special?

  • Blueberry seeds and Summer Fruits+Laurel essential oils: Real blueberry seeds add subtle texture alongside the sugar. The essential oil blend reads as sun-ripened fruit and bay — fresh and herbaceous, not candy-sweet or sunscreen-adjacent.
  • Almond oil base: Almond oil absorbs quickly and leaves the skin with a light finish rather than a residue. Combined with sunflower oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter, the formula rinses clean.
  • Built for sun-dried skin: Shoulders, legs, feet, heels — places that take a beating outdoors and dry out by the end of the day. The sugar dissolves as you scrub; the blueberry seeds stay fine enough not to scratch.
  • Pairs with Place in the Sun Body Butter: Use the scrub first on damp skin, rinse with warm water, then apply the body butter while skin is still slightly damp — the oils absorb best then and the summer scent carries through.
  • Hand-poured in Owings Mills: Made in small batches in our Maryland facility, checked for texture and scent strength before it ships.

Pair it with the Place in the Sun Body Butter for the full routine.

How to Use: In the shower or bath, scoop a small amount and work into damp skin in circular motions. Focus on rough patches — heels, elbows, knees, shoulders. The sugar dissolves as you scrub; the blueberry seeds rinse clean. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Follow with Place in the Sun Body Butter while skin is still slightly damp. Use within six months of opening and store away from heat and direct sunlight. External use only. Discontinue if irritation occurs.

Place in the Sun Body Scrub FAQs

What does Place in the Sun smell like?

Like sun-warmed fruit and bay leaves, not blueberry candy and not sunscreen. The Summer Fruits and Laurel essential oil blend is fresh and herbaceous, with the kind of green edge laurel brings to a dish (think bay leaves in a slow-simmered stew, just brighter). The fruit reads as ripe rather than sweet, and the laurel keeps it grown-up rather than juvenile.

I'm allergic to almonds. Is this scrub safe for me?

Probably not. The base includes sweet almond oil, which is pressed from the same almonds people eat. If you have a tree nut allergy or specifically react to almonds, skip this one. Nectar+Honey, Sea+Tea, and Rose Garden don't contain almond oil and are worth a look instead. Sea+Tea in particular is the most allergy-friendly across the line: no almond, no honey crystals, no walnut shells, just plant-and-mineral exfoliants. Always check the full ingredient list before using a new product.

Will the blueberry seeds stain my skin or my tub?

No. Blueberries stain when the juice gets onto something porous, but the seeds themselves don't carry pigment once they've been cleaned and dried for use in a scrub. They look dark in the jar against the lighter base, and they rinse away clean alongside the sugar and oil. Your shower floor stays the same color it was when you started. The same goes for skin: the seeds add texture, not tint.

Can I use this scrub on sunburned skin?

No. Sunburn is a form of inflammation, and the last thing irritated skin needs is a sugar scrub working over the top of it. Wait until the burn has fully healed and any peeling is done, then come back to the scrub to smooth out whatever rough patches the recovery left behind. In the meantime, a gentle moisturizer or an aloe-based balm is a better fit. The same rule applies to any cuts, abrasions, or recently shaved and irritated skin.

What do the blueberry seeds in the Place in the Sun scrub actually do?

They keep exfoliating after the sugar dissolves. Cane sugar breaks down as you work it into damp skin, which makes it gentle but also short-lived. The dried blueberry seeds stay intact through the whole scrub, so you get a second layer of exfoliation that works on rough spots without crossing into walnut-shell territory. The seeds also tie back to the collection's origin. Place in the Sun started with jars of blueberry honey at farmers markets, and the seeds carry that story into the body care.

How often should I use a body scrub?

Two or three times a week is the sweet spot for most people. Skin needs time to rebuild between exfoliations, so daily use can leave you feeling raw rather than smooth. If you're working on a specific rough patch, you can spot-treat it more often, just keep the rest of your routine on the gentler schedule. People with sensitive skin often do better at once a week. The goal is skin that feels softer afterward, not tight or stripped.

What's the difference between a sugar scrub and a salt scrub?

Sugar dissolves as you work it into damp skin, so the texture eases off the harder you press. That makes it gentler than salt for most body areas and especially for anyone with sensitive skin. Salt scrubs stay coarse the whole time and can sting if you've nicked yourself shaving. Our scrubs are sugar-based for that reason. Cane sugar exfoliates, then rinses cleanly without the stripped feeling some salt formulas leave behind.

Should I scrub before or after I shave?

Before, every time. A scrub lifts dead skin and softens the hair, which means the razor glides instead of dragging, and you get a closer shave with fewer bumps afterward. Scrubbing post-shave on freshly bare skin is asking for irritation, especially if you nicked yourself anywhere. The sequence is scrub, rinse, shave, rinse again. Then follow with a body butter or oil while skin is still damp.

How long does an opened jar of body scrub last?

About six months once the seal is broken. The oils stay stable longer than that in theory, but the scent and texture are best in the first half-year, and you'll feel the difference. Store the jar away from direct sunlight and out of the steamy splash zone in your shower; a shelf or caddy works better than the tub edge. If you notice the smell going off or the oils separating in a way that won't stir back together, it's time for a new one.

How does Subscribe & Save work?

Most products offer a Subscribe & Save option at checkout. Pick your delivery cadence (every 30, 45, or 60 days) and you'll save 15% on every shipment, including the first. The only commitment is a minimum of two deliveries before you can cancel, so you have at least one chance to make sure the cadence is right for you. Adjust the timing, skip a shipment, or cancel any time after that from your account dashboard.
