The “Get It Together” Tea

This is the tea you grab when you need caffeine with a side of snap out of it. It’s bold, it’s bright, and it’s here to wake you up without wrecking your stomach like coffee sometimes does.

Kondoli Assam lays down the malty, no-nonsense base—the kind that can handle a splash of milk if that’s your style. Orange peel cuts through with a citrusy zing (don’t worry, it’s more “fresh” than “floor cleaner”), while cranberries bring the tart drama. Hibiscus gives it that deep ruby color, and rooibos steps in to smooth things out without turning it into dessert.

What Makes Our Sunrise Assam Tea Special?

  • Kondoli Assam base: Kondoli is a specific growing area within the Assam region known for producing particularly full-bodied black tea. Malty and bold — the kind that holds up to milk without disappearing into it.
  • Real orange peel, not flavoring: Dried orange peel, not artificial orange flavoring. It smells like you zested a real orange into the jar.
  • Whole leaf, not dust: Loose leaf means actual tea leaves that unfurl when they steep. Smoother and more complex than what comes out of a bag.
  • 40–70mg caffeine per cup: Black tea from India, brewed to strength. Enough to be useful in the morning; easy enough on the stomach that it won't wreck you the way coffee sometimes does.
  • Hot or iced: Brew it standard in winter. Brew double-strength and pour over ice in summer — the melting ice dilutes it to drinking strength.
  • 20 servings per jar: 3.2oz of loose leaf in a recyclable glass jar. Less packaging waste than boxes of individually wrapped bags.

If you need a morning tea that actually does something, this is it — order Sunrise Assam and see why loose leaf Assam has been the go-to breakfast tea in Britain for over a century.

Brewing Instructions: Hot: Brew at 212°F with 1 tsp per 8oz, steep 4 mins. For stronger tea, use more leaves, not time. Iced: Brew double-strength, pour over ice. Cold brew: Steep 2 tsp in room temp water overnight, strain for a smoother cup. Add milk and honey for a classic British-style brew.

All of our teas are gluten-free, although not all of our teas, botanicals, and other ingredients come from gluten-free certified suppliers.

Sunrise Assam Tea FAQs

What kind of tea is Sunrise Assam?

Sunrise Assam is a loose leaf black tea blend built around Kondoli Assam, a full-bodied black tea from northeastern India. We blend it with dried orange peel, dried cranberries, hibiscus flower, rooibos, and natural fruit flavors at our Owings Mills facility. The result is a caffeinated, malty, citrus-forward cup designed for morning brewing. Hot, iced, or cold brew, all three work. The Kondoli base is bold enough to hold up to milk if that's your style.

How much caffeine is in Sunrise Assam Tea?

Roughly 40 to 70mg per cup, depending on how much leaf you use and how long you steep. One teaspoon steeped for four minutes lands on the lower end. One and a half teaspoons brewed strong pushes toward the higher end. Assam is naturally among the higher-caffeine black teas. The rooibos in the blend moderates the total level slightly compared to straight Assam, but it still delivers a clear morning lift. Less than coffee, more than green tea.

Can I add milk to Sunrise Assam Tea?

Yes, and it holds up beautifully. The Kondoli Assam base is full-bodied enough that adding milk doesn't wash it out, which is exactly why Assam became the foundation of British breakfast tea culture. Brew it strong first (one teaspoon per 8oz, steeped 4 minutes), then add warm milk and a drizzle of honey if you like. Oat milk works well too. Either way, the malty notes stay in the front of the cup rather than disappearing under the dairy.

What honey pairs best with Sunrise Assam Tea?

Orange blossom honey is the most seamless pairing. The citrus note in the honey echoes the dried orange peel already in the blend. Clover honey is a neutral choice that lets the tea stay in front, no honey personality competing with the cup. If you want to lean into the tart fruit element, cranberry honey doubles down on what the hibiscus and cranberries are already doing. A half teaspoon stirred into a hot cup is usually enough.

Are your teas gluten-free?

All of our teas are naturally gluten-free. The catch is that not all of our teas, botanicals, and other ingredients come from gluten-free certified suppliers, so we can't make a certified gluten-free claim on the label. For most people that's a non-issue. If you have celiac disease or a severe gluten sensitivity, factor that in before ordering. We'd rather tell you straight than dress it up.

Do you offer a discount on multiple jars of tea?

Yes. Mix and match any 3 or more jars from our tea collection and save 15% at checkout. The discount applies whether you're stocking your own cabinet, splitting jars with a few friends, or putting together a gift set. Our blends are packaged in small batches in Owings Mills, Maryland, and the variety holds up well over time when stored properly. Try a few. They play well together.

How should I store loose leaf tea?

Keep the jar sealed and store it in a cool, dark cabinet away from the stove, the fridge, and anything strongly scented. Tea absorbs odors easily, and light and heat dull the flavor over time. Skip the fridge entirely. Condensation does no favors to dried leaves or flowers. Stored properly in its glass jar, your tea stays fresh and full-flavored for a year or more.

Are your teas vegan?

Yes. None of our teas contain honey, dairy, or any animal-derived ingredients. Every blend is plant-based: tea leaves, herbs, flowers, dried fruit, and spices. If you add honey from our shop to your cup, that's no longer vegan since honey is an animal product, but the loose leaf tea on its own is. The same goes for milk or cream you might add yourself. The jar is vegan. What you do with it is up to you.
