When you need something warm, naturally sweet, and downright delightful, Bee’s Knees is the tea that delivers. It’s not just a name—it’s a vibe. This is the tea you’ll keep reaching for, the one that feels like it was made just for you.
Straight from South Africa, honeybush leaves steep into a golden brew that’s naturally sweet—no sugar, no honey, no nonsense. Think caramel meets molasses with a hint of toasted nuts. It’s smooth, cozy, and just the right amount of sweet without trying too hard. And yes, that’s all the plant. Nothing added, nothing artificial.
What Makes Our Bee's Knees Honeybush Tea Special?
- Flavor that needs nothing added: Honeybush brews into a golden cup with notes of caramel and molasses and a hint of toasted nuts — smooth, naturally sweet, and low in tannins, so it doesn't go bitter even if you steep it long.
- Single ingredient from South Africa: Just honeybush leaves, sourced from farms in the Western Cape where the plant grows natively. No blends, no added flavoring, nothing artificial.
- Naturally caffeine-free: No stimulants. Brew it in the morning or at night — no sleep disruption, no jitters.
- Loose leaf in a recyclable glass jar: 2.5oz per jar, approximately 20 servings. Packaged here in Owings Mills.
- Gluten-free: All of our teas are gluten-free, though not all ingredients come from gluten-free certified suppliers.
If you've spent years avoiding tea because it's too bitter or too earthy, try this one first.
Instructions for Brewing: 1 tsp per 8oz at 206°F, steep 5–7 mins. Enjoy plain or with oat milk. For iced tea, double the leaves, cool, and pour over ice. Strong brews pair beautifully with bourbon.

Bee’s Knees Honeybush Tea FAQs
What is honeybush tea and what does it taste like?
Honeybush is a caffeine-free herbal tea made from the Cyclopia plant, which grows in the mountainous fynbos regions of South Africa's Western Cape. The name comes from the plant's bright yellow flowers, which smell honey-like when they bloom. The cup brews golden, with notes of caramel, molasses, and a hint of toasted nuttiness. It's naturally sweet without sugar or honey added, and low in tannins, so it doesn't go bitter even if you steep it long.
Does Bee's Knees Tea contain caffeine?
No. Honeybush is naturally caffeine-free at the plant level. This isn't a decaffeination process. The Cyclopia plant simply doesn't produce caffeine, the way rooibos doesn't either. Bee's Knees can be brewed at any time of day without affecting sleep, jitters, or anything else caffeine-related. It's a popular evening choice for people who miss the ritual of a hot drink after dinner but want to be asleep by 10.
Does Bee's Knees contain actual honey?
No. The blend is one ingredient: pure honeybush tea leaves. The sweetness is naturally occurring in the Cyclopia plant itself. No honey, sugar, or any other sweeteners are added. The "honey" in honeybush refers to the warm, honey-like fragrance the plant's yellow flowers give off when they bloom, not to anything in the cup. The name on the jar is the plant's name, not a description of the ingredients.
How is honeybush different from rooibos?
Both are naturally caffeine-free herbal teas from South Africa, but they come from different plants and taste distinctly different. Rooibos has more earthiness and a slightly woody, sometimes acidic edge. Honeybush is sweeter, smoother, and lower in tannins. It doesn't leave the dry, astringent feeling that some rooibos teas do. People who find rooibos too earthy often prefer honeybush. If you've enjoyed our Cider & Spice or Haute Cocoa Chai, this is a different experience: pure, single-ingredient, and not blended with anything.
Are your teas gluten-free?
All of our teas are naturally gluten-free. The catch is that not all of our teas, botanicals, and other ingredients come from gluten-free certified suppliers, so we can't make a certified gluten-free claim on the label. For most people that's a non-issue. If you have celiac disease or a severe gluten sensitivity, factor that in before ordering. We'd rather tell you straight than dress it up.
Do you offer a discount on multiple jars of tea?
Yes. Mix and match any 3 or more jars from our tea collection and save 15% at checkout. The discount applies whether you're stocking your own cabinet, splitting jars with a few friends, or putting together a gift set. Our blends are packaged in small batches in Owings Mills, Maryland, and the variety holds up well over time when stored properly. Try a few. They play well together.
How should I store loose leaf tea?
Keep the jar sealed and store it in a cool, dark cabinet away from the stove, the fridge, and anything strongly scented. Tea absorbs odors easily, and light and heat dull the flavor over time. Skip the fridge entirely. Condensation does no favors to dried leaves or flowers. Stored properly in its glass jar, your tea stays fresh and full-flavored for a year or more.
Why loose leaf instead of tea bags?
Tea bags are typically filled with broken leaf and tea dust. Quick to brew, fast to turn bitter, limited in flavor complexity. Loose leaf gives the leaves and ingredients room to unfurl and release their character gradually. You also get to see exactly what's in the jar, whether that's whole flowers, real dried fruit, or full leaves. It's a small change in how you brew. The cup tells the difference.
Are your teas vegan?
Yes. None of our teas contain honey, dairy, or any animal-derived ingredients. Every blend is plant-based: tea leaves, herbs, flowers, dried fruit, and spices. If you add honey from our shop to your cup, that's no longer vegan since honey is an animal product, but the loose leaf tea on its own is. The same goes for milk or cream you might add yourself. The jar is vegan. What you do with it is up to you.
