Earl Grey, But Make It Mysterious
This isn’t your grandma’s Earl Grey—it’s Earl Grey with a dark, poetic twist. The kind of tea that feels right at home on a foggy Baltimore morning or a shadowy evening spent reading Edgar Allan Poe. Ravens fans, literary lovers, and anyone who appreciates a little drama in their cup—this one’s for you.
Organic black tea lays the groundwork with a bold, no-nonsense flavor and just the right amount of caffeine to keep you sharp. Bergamot oil brings its signature citrusy brightness, but then—plot twist—lavender enters the scene. Not enough to make it taste like potpourri, but just enough to add a soft, floral finish that lingers like a haunting refrain.
What Makes Our Raven Earl Grey Tea Special?
- Organic black tea base: Full-bodied enough to hold up to milk, robust enough to drink straight. The foundation everything else builds on.
- Natural bergamot oil: Extracted from bergamot oranges, this is the citrus note that defines Earl Grey. We use natural oil, not artificial flavoring.
- Organic lavender: A finishing note, not the star of the show. It rounds out the bergamot and adds a soft floral close without tipping into potpourri territory.
- Loose leaf format: Whole leaves that fully expand when steeped, releasing a more complete flavor than the ground leaf dust in most tea bags.
- Hand-blended in Owings Mills, MD: Every batch is blended and packaged by hand at our facility. Approximately 20 cups per 2.6 oz jar.
- Dye free, vegan: No artificial colors. No animal products. Three ingredients: organic black tea, organic lavender, natural bergamot oil.

Brewing Instructions: Brew at 180–185°F with 1 tsp per 8oz, steep 3–5 mins. Enjoy straight, as a London Fog with oat milk and honey, or double-strength over ice with lemon for a sharper bergamot twist.

Raven Earl Grey Tea with Lavender FAQs
What does Raven Earl Grey taste like?
Classic Earl Grey with a softer landing. The organic black tea base is bold and full-bodied. Natural bergamot oil brings the bright, citrusy floral note that defines Earl Grey. The twist is the organic lavender, which comes in at the end of the sip as a finishing note, not the lead. Together the cup tastes like Earl Grey with a quiet, slightly poetic ending. Three ingredients, no artificial flavors, no dyes, nothing added for shelf appeal.
How much caffeine is in Raven Earl Grey?
A moderate amount, roughly half of what you'd find in a comparable serving of coffee. The caffeine comes naturally from the organic black tea base. Steep time and water temperature both affect how much gets extracted. A shorter steep at a slightly lower temperature pulls less. Three minutes at 180°F gives you a lighter cup. Five minutes at 185°F pulls more. Either way, enough to be useful in the morning.
Is the lavender flavor too strong in Raven Earl Grey?
No. The lavender is a finishing note, not the lead ingredient. It rounds out the bergamot at the end of the sip without taking over the cup. Most people describe the lavender as a soft, floral close they didn't see coming, not a dominant flavor. If you're new to lavender in tea, start at the shorter end of the steep range, around 3 minutes. You can adjust from there based on the cup.
How do I make a London Fog with Raven Earl Grey?
Brew Raven double-strength: 2 teaspoons per 8oz of water at 180 to 185°F, steeped 4 to 5 minutes. Strain. Add an equal part of warm or steamed milk (oat milk works particularly well), a small drop of vanilla extract, and a spoonful of honey. Stir and serve. The lavender in the blend means you can skip the lavender syrup most London Fog recipes call for. This one's already built in.
Are your teas vegan?
Yes. None of our teas contain honey, dairy, or any animal-derived ingredients. Every blend is plant-based: tea leaves, herbs, flowers, dried fruit, and spices. If you add honey from our shop to your cup, that's no longer vegan since honey is an animal product, but the loose leaf tea on its own is. The same goes for milk or cream you might add yourself. The jar is vegan. What you do with it is up to you.
Are your teas gluten-free?
All of our teas are naturally gluten-free. The catch is that not all of our teas, botanicals, and other ingredients come from gluten-free certified suppliers, so we can't make a certified gluten-free claim on the label. For most people that's a non-issue. If you have celiac disease or a severe gluten sensitivity, factor that in before ordering. We'd rather tell you straight than dress it up.
Do you offer a discount on multiple jars of tea?
Yes. Mix and match any 3 or more jars from our tea collection and save 15% at checkout. The discount applies whether you're stocking your own cabinet, splitting jars with a few friends, or putting together a gift set. Our blends are packaged in small batches in Owings Mills, Maryland, and the variety holds up well over time when stored properly. Try a few. They play well together.
How should I store loose leaf tea?
Keep the jar sealed and store it in a cool, dark cabinet away from the stove, the fridge, and anything strongly scented. Tea absorbs odors easily, and light and heat dull the flavor over time. Skip the fridge entirely. Condensation does no favors to dried leaves or flowers. Stored properly in its glass jar, your tea stays fresh and full-flavored for a year or more.
Why loose leaf instead of tea bags?
Tea bags are typically filled with broken leaf and tea dust. Quick to brew, fast to turn bitter, limited in flavor complexity. Loose leaf gives the leaves and ingredients room to unfurl and release their character gradually. You also get to see exactly what's in the jar, whether that's whole flowers, real dried fruit, or full leaves. It's a small change in how you brew. The cup tells the difference.
