Issue 11 - February 2024
This month, I’m focusing on the love that makes the world go round.
While grand gestures on Valentine's Day are lovely, it's the small, everyday acts of affection and tenderness that truly sustain me. I am hoping to remember with you that love is not just something to give, but also something to cherish and grow within yourself
Self-Love is the motivation and outcome of Self-Care.
We’ve all heard that you can't pour from an empty cup, and it's absolutely true. To show love to others—truly, deeply—requires that we first love ourselves. When we love ourselves, we have the deep well of compassion to handle the challenges that come our way and to build healthier, more fulfilling relationships.
Self-love is challenging.
What is my reality? By my nature, I set impossibly high standards of achievement for myself; that turns into relentless drive with little time for personal replenishment.
My internal critic seems relentless. I have to be diligent to remind myself that there is beauty in my quirks (it’s hard to even write those words). I have messy bits, vulnerabilities, shame. I know my own challenging journey is to embrace the flawed, fabulous human that I am.
Radical Compassion.
At the heart is the simple and powerful truth that love, especially self-love, is an act of radical compassion. Look in the mirror and extend to yourself the same kindness you'd extend to a cherished friend. Be your own cherished friend!
Wake up in the morning and set your intention to treat yourself with gentleness throughout the day, regardless of the curve-balls life (and your internal critic) may throw.
Your Self-Care Journey.
What are victories you have realized in your own Self-Care journey?
This month, we received a touching story from one of our followers who told us about the time she caught herself in the mirror and, instead of picking out her flaws, she complimented her own reflection. It was a small moment, but it planted a seed of appreciation for who she is.
Another story came from a single parent who, struggling to balance work, family, and personal time, carved out a solitary hour each week to do something that felt nourishing, whether it was a long bath, a walk in the park, or reading a few pages from a new book in peace. That weekly ritual has become an oasis in her life, a place where time stands still and it is okay to just be.
Love yourself.
This month, I am committed to practice at least one act of self-love each day. Whether it's taking a few extra moments to savor my favorite cup of tea, remind myself of a personal victory, or simply thank my body for carrying me through this wild adventure called life, I am strengthening my comfort with loving myself – and replenishing the love I can pour into others.
