Ginger Shot Recipe: Simple Ginger Shot With Lemon Boosts Your Health

Ginger shots have gained popularity as a health supplement because they enhance digestion, alleviate inflammation, and fortify the immune system. They are a nutritious, low-calorie option that supports overall health. Learn about how easy it is to prepare ginger shots at home and their advantages for well-being.

Understanding Ginger Shots starts at the root

Did you know that ginger is not a root but a rhizome?! Rhizomes are stem-like structures that horizontally branch out and grow sideways underground. Ginger utilizes this unique growth pattern to spread efficiently by sending shoots that take root below the soil surface. Next time you hear someone refer to it as "ginger root," you can share this little-known fact.

Growing ginger is easier than you think provided you plant the right rhizome, in the best climate condition for growth, in the right kind of soil.

Ginger shots are made from the concentrated essence of fresh ginger, along with other ingredients like turmeric, lemon, carrots, apples and more, to deliver a powerful boost to one’s health through an intense dose of ginger juice. The use of ginger in these potent drinks traces back to ancient medicinal practices where it was revered for its significant healing properties.

The advantages offered by consuming ginger shots include:

  • Elevating immune function
  • Lessening inflammation
  • Promoting digestive health
  • Alleviating feelings of nausea
  • Enhancing blood flow

Some recipes dull the fiery zest by adding fresh turmeric root, fresh lemon (peeled and deseeded), fresh peeled aloe, apple and/or carrots—playing with this recipe is fun and always results in an invigorating beverage. To diminish any lingering burn on the palate post-consumption, drink a full glass of water after you drink your ginger shot!

    Key Ingredient for Ginger Shots

To create homemade ginger shots, you will need fresh ginger. In our video, I had just purchased an Omega juicer. This particular juicer is a low speed juicer, it is not commercial grade and I did not fully peel the ginger prior to juicing. That was a mistake. It clogged the juicer almost immediately. While the outside "skin" on ginger is perfectly safe to ingest, for the best performance, peel the ginger with a sharp knife prior to juicing. You will save the blades and you will avoid clogging the juicer.

I happen to enjoy other veggies and roots including carrots and fresh turmeric along with fruit grown on trees, lemon, pears, and apples! I highly recommend adding honey to balance the spicy nature of ginger to achieve a tasty shot. When selecting ingredients, ensure the fresh ginger is firm and smooth, while lemons should be freshly squeezed with no peel or seeds included to avoid added bitterness.

Alternatively, you can use fruit juice as an ingredient for making ginger shots. This allows you to customize the juice by using options like grapefruit, pineapple, and apple, giving you control over the intensity of the ginger in the mixture. On the other hand, If you love spicy food, adding cayenne pepper adds the extra heat and further supports good health. Additionally, incorporating black pepper and ground turmeric can enhance the flavor and health benefits of ginger shots, aiding in nutrient absorption and providing an earthy taste.

How to Make Ginger Shots at Home

Creating ginger shots at home is surprisingly straightforward. For this recipe, we used an Omega Low-Speed Juicer. With this uncomplicated recipe, you’ll be sipping on homemade fresh ginger shots quickly.

For an even smoother texture, especially when using a consumer-grade juicer, consider using a nut milk bag to strain the ginger shots after blending.

    Step 1
Rinse the fresh ginger thoroughly under tap water while scrubbing off any dirt with a vegetable brush.

    Step 2
Dry the fresh ginger well after cleaning.

    Step 3
Peel the skin off of the ginger using either a spoon or sharp knife for efficiency without losing an excessive amount of flesh.

Place the ginger in the juicer and push it through.

    Step 4
Peel the lemons. Place the lemon in the juicer and push it through.

    Step 5
Add apple slices or carrots, etc.

After the lemon and ginger are turned to juice, add honey and other desired liquids/spices to taste.

    Customizing Your Ginger Shot Recipe

The ease of customization is one of the most appealing aspects of ginger shots. You can adjust the base ingredients to suit your taste preferences. For example, you might prefer using orange juice or coconut water instead of lemon juice for a milder flavor. Adjust the amount of each component to find the perfect balance for your palate.

Adding different ingredients can also enhance both the flavor and health benefits of your ginger shots. Some excellent additions include:

    • Raw honey: adds natural sweetness as well as medicinal benefits

    • Turmeric root: enhances the anti-inflammatory benefits

    • Aloe vera juice: provides hydration and digestive support

    • Pineapple juice: adds a tropical flavor and boosts immune function

    • Apple cider vinegar: aids in digestion and detoxification

Each of these ingredients brings its own unique taste and health properties to your ginger shots.

If you’re feeling adventurous, try creating variations like carrot ginger shots by adding a medium carrot for extra vitamin C, or add a green twist with spinach, wheat grass, kale, to ginger shots by blending in a cup of spinach leaves and half a green apple (seeds removed). These variations not only add nutritional value but also keep your ginger shot routine exciting.
